The inside bets
This covers any bet that takes place
on the inside part of the table. These bets are placed
on one or a combination of numbers. Tables will have
minimum wager requirements that must be adhered to.
If the table minimum is £5, you can place 5 £1
bets on a different number on the table, but you must
make a total of £5 in bets. Alternatively you
can also just bet £5 on one number.
Straight Bet
Otherwise known as the "classic bet" or “straight
up bet”, you are betting that you can guess the
next number that lands. A straight up bet can be placed
on any of the numbers from 1 to 36, as well as zero
and double zero (if the latter is included on the wheel).
The payoff on a straight bet is 35-1, which is why
it is such a popular bet. A single £10 can return
£350 in just one spin. Conversely though, this
type of bet has the worst odds of any bet on the table.
You are not limited to just one straight up bet. You
can bet on as many numbers as you like and can bet up
to the house limit on each individual bet. The personalised
chip colours makes it easy to keep track of which bets
are yours, should you decide to smatter the layout area
with a variety of bets.
Split Bet, or Two Number
This is when you place your chip on the line separating
two numbers. If either number hits, you get a 17 to
1 payoff. This type of bet gives you double the chance
to win for only half the payout. If, for instance, you
bet £10 and place the chip between 28 and 31;
if either number hit, you would win £170.
A split bet can be placed on any two adjacent numbers
on the layout area, as well as between zero and double
zero on American roulette tables.
Street Bet or Three Number
Also known as a trio bet or a stream bet, this is when
you are betting that one of three numbers hits on the
roulette wheel. It is placed by putting a chip on the
line separating the ‘dozens’ part of the
layout area from the columns of numbers. The payoff
for a bet like this is 11 to 1. So if you bet £10
and bet on either 13, 14, or 15 to hit, you would win
£110 if any of the three hit.
Square Bet
This is otherwise known as a Four-Number or Corner
bet and is when you are hoping that one of 4 numbers
that you bet on hits. To make this bet you place a chip
at the point where four numbers converge. The payoff
on a bet like this is 8 to 1. For example, if you bet
£4 on the numbers 22, 23, 24 and 25, then you
would win £32 if the roulette ball landed on any
of the four numbers.
Five-Number Bet
This is betting that one of these 5 numbers will hit:
0, 00, 1, 2 or 3. The payoff for this bet is 6 to 1,
and can only be played on an American wheel. So if you
bet £6 and one of them hit, you would win £36.
This is a very poor bet and should be avoided at all
costs. This type of bet gives the house an advantage
of 7.89% and is the worst bet you can possibly make
on the entire roulette layout.
Six-Number Bet
Betting on six numbers is possible by placing a bet
in the same way as you would for a three number bet,
but covering the line dividing two rows instead of just
one. This type of bet pays out 5 to 1. Because you have
6 times the chance of winning when compared to a single
number bet, this type of bet is quite popular.
